Christmas lunch and party at Strathview

It was a busy week in the run up to Christmas for the residents and care team at Strathview in Auchtermuchty in Fife this week.

Christmas is a challenging time of year for those living with dementia with changes in routine, Christmas shopping and for those heavily affected. At Strathview House we work with the residents to ensure Christmas is an enjoyable time, including seeing friends and family, keeping to their daily routines as much as possible, such as set meal times and sharing experiences and talking to each other.

On Tuesday many of the residents at Strathview enjoyed a trip out to the local pub/ restaurant for their Christmas dinner, with a surprise visit from Santa.  Thank you to Rhonda for organising the afternoon and for The Stagg at Falkland for putting on an amazing feast and making all our residents feel very welcome! It was such a nice treat for them to get out and socialise with the local community in a different environment for the afternoon.

On Wednesday Strathview held their Christmas party for the residents, relatives and care team. Entertainment was provided by singers Joe Stirling (who can be very witty as well) and Mary-Ellen Rodger, they both sang a mix of songs including carols and popular Christmas songs. They had a really good rapport with the residents with lots of audience participation, singing and dancing! Everyone also enjoyed a great selection of party nibbles and buffet food provided by the chef.

All the residents really enjoyed the music and dancing, especially Ena and Bob who were up and down all afternoon, and Tommy played along on his drum!

Thank you all for a wonderful Christmas!

Strathview provides specialist residential and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 25 elderly people.
