Caring Homes supports National Care Home Open Day

Many Caring Homes Group private care homes opened their doors to their local community today in support of National Care Home Open Day. This national day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to the local community by hosting an event to welcome visitors, with the aim of creating lasting links between the home and the surrounding community that each home supports.

The following events took place on Friday 19 June 2015, and are listed in alphabetical order by county*:

Abbeycrest, Sonning Common, RG4 9RG: 10.30-12pm, Swing Music performance by Ashley Stone. Barry Cornell from the Care Quality Commission attending.

Mill House, Chipping Campden, GL55 6DR: Open all day to welcome visitors for a dedicated show around and refreshments. Please call Koren Evans-Slade, Home Manager in advance to confirm your visit time on 01386 848990.

East Hill House, Liss, Hampshire, GU33 7RR: 12.30-2pm, Teddy bears picnic with local playschool children, their parents and grandchildren of residents. [Please call Samantha Booty, Home Manager on 01730 895170 if media would like to attend and report on the event. Attendees by invitation only so please do not promote the event in the paper in advance, local media welcome to cover the event though if this is pre-arranged.]

Sundridge Court, Bromley, BR1 3NG: 2pm Mad Hatters Tea Party with bunting on the front lawn. Invites have been sent to neighbours and relatives, past and present. Contact Carol Marsh on 020 8466 6553 if you wish to attend.

Deer Park View, Teddington, TW11 0DX: 2.30-4.30pm seaside picnic (outside/inside as weather permits). Scrumptious seaside snacks, with seaside photo cut-outs and themed games with music.

Ivy Court, Norwich: NEW building will be open to show around visitors to the new building, set to officially open for residents in July 2015. To arrange a visit call 0808 901 2252 or visit:
Brooklyn House, Attleborough, Norfolk NR17 2AG: 10.30-12pm open coffee morning with drinks, cakes and scones.

Oaken Holt, Farmoor, OX2 9NL: 2.30-4pm, Ascot themed race day for residents and their relatives (please do not openly advertise in the paper, but reporters and photographers are welcome to attend and report on the event). There will be fancy dress, plenty of strawberries, wooden wind up horse race game with rosettes for the winners!

Marchglen Care Centre, Fishcross, FK10 3GN: 3-4pm musician Daniel Smith will be performing a ‘Blues boogie’ party in the main lounge with coffee and cakes. For more information visit:
Scoonie House, Leven, Fife, KY8 4DP: Open day for visitors, all welcome. Contact the home in advance to arrange a visit time on 01333 426735, the local MP Stephen Gethins is planning to visit the home at some point during the day.

Mount Pleasant, Winshill, Burton-on-Trent, DE15 0DR (off Hollow Lane): 10.45am cream teas, 11am Bingo, raffle (drawn at 12pm), 2pm manicures and hand massages, entertainer performing all day.
MP Heather Wheeler will be visiting the home.

Coppice Lea, Merstham, RH1 3QN: 2.15pm Afternoon Cocktail making on the Lawn (for over 18’s only) and 3pm Mid-Afternoon Cream Tea Party.
Knowle Park, Cranleigh, GU6 8JL: Garden Party from 1pm: Tea, coffee and cakes for visitors and flower arranging activity for residents and visitors.
Horsell Lodge, Woking, GU21 4JA: 1pm The Three Belles singing, the local church congregation visiting, followed by ‘cream teas’ at 3pm. Residents artwork and photography will be on display.

Claydon House, Lewes, BN7 2QT: Exercise to Music with residents and cooking with the Dementia Unit residents in the morning (pastries, cakes or fruit salad and lemonade to be enjoyed in the afternoon). After lunch everyone will be in the conservatory and garden area singing a selection of old sing-a-long songs, led by a singer. Also an afternoon tea with jam and clotted cream scones and cucumber sandwiches with refreshments. Everyone welcome!
Rectory House, Sompting, BN15 0DA: 2-4pm local fashion designer clothing sale.
Walstead Place, Lindfield, RH16 2QG: 3pm, afternoon tea with special cakes. A new chef has recently started at the home so there will be a focus on food tasters throughout the day with special meals and tea with cakes celebration in the afternoon.

Ferfoot, Chippenham, SN14 6HH: 2-4.30pm, Royal Ascot themed open day. Prize for the ‘best dressed’, canapés and strawberries, sweepstake races, royal procession (2pm) and Ascot themed tea party. Media welcome for a preview at 11am (please call in advance to confirm your attendance).
Laverstock, Salisbury, SP1 3YU: Vintage tea party 10.30-4pm with singer Lee Knotts 2-4pm singing songs from the ‘rat pack’. Also on 17 June, 2-4pm, there is a seaside themed party with visiting real donkey, ice creams, chips in paper, rock around the themed beach hut in the garden!

A spokesperson for Caring Homes Group said: “These events are all about celebrating the high quality of care we offer across the UK, for the benefit of the local communities we support. For most homes it is an open house, so come in and have a look around, meet the home manager and enjoy the planned event!”

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.
