Caring Homes’ Horsell Lodge in Woking shortlisted for a Pinders’ Healthcare Design Award

Caring Homes are delighted to announce that Horsell Lodge, their brand-new state of the art care home in Woking, has been shortlisted for ‘Best New Care Home’ (higher development budget) in the prestigious Pinders’ healthcare design awards.

Horsell Lodge is located in the delightful village of Horsell, minutes to the north of Woking in Surrey. The home is luxurious and beautifully furnished whilst retaining a warm family atmosphere, with highly trained staff available to get to know residents individually offering the highest standards of residential, nursing and dementia care for 70 older people.

Horsell Lodge offers first class facilities and accommodation, allowing residents to feel welcome, relaxed and secure whilst also enjoying an active and independent lifestyle. The home has bright and spacious communal areas including a cinema, hair salon, bistro, a restaurant with private dining facilities and several cosy lounges and quiet rooms.

The home, on the site of the former Horsell Lodge which closed in 2017, is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens with several rooms on the lower ground floor having access to the gardens from their private patio.

Our design team have worked closely with the Operations team to develop a home that creates the best possible environment with the assurance of excellent care through high quality design. Safety and comfort are our foremost concern, so all our rooms are fitted with a nurse call system and acoustic monitoring for peace of mind. As well as improving quality of sleep, acoustic monitoring can help to reduce the risk of falls.

For those living with memory loss or dementia, design features include dementia-friendly elements such as interior decoration, light levels, floor coverings and signage which help to promote a sense of calm and wellbeing, while enabling people living with dementia to find their way around independently and safely.

Horsell Lodge is our first home to include the new ‘Stable Door’ design feature which can benefit residents in four ways:

  • Choice – the doors give residents a degree of choice over their environment. They can have the security of a closed door or flexibility to achieve a middle ground with half open.
  • Recognition – with a larger than standard memory box and illumination on approach, it aids residents living with dementia to recognise their room.
  • Personal Space – with the option to close the lower leaf it gives residents a higher degree of control over their personal space, while still being able to engage with the people around them.
  • Security – the door is only accessible by the resident or a member of the care team, giving comfort to both residents and families.

Caring Homes Managing Director Tracey Fletcher-Ray said; “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award in the prestigious Pinders’ Healthcare Design Awards 2020.

“At Caring Homes, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care in the best possible surroundings with a focus on person centred care, clinical excellence and family values. To have one of our newest care homes recognised within the care industry in this way is fantastic.”

Horsell Lodge is one of the latest additions to the Caring Homes family, which now comprises of 64 homes nationally and is celebrating 25 years in the care home industry this year after starting out with just one care home in 1994.

The Pinders Healthcare Design Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property and to acknowledge the contribution made by home owners, designers and architects to the wellbeing and quality of life for those in their care. Whilst architectural standards and innovation are key factors, the overriding test for any project is the degree to which it has recognised the needs and desires of the residents and incorporated these into the final design.

A charitable donation of £500 will be presented to Caring Homes from Pinders during the judging visit in early 2020 to mark the coveted place in the final and this will be given to the Care Workers Charity.

Caring Homes Riverside Place in Ware won a Pinders’ Award in 2019 for Best New Care Home. Broadbridge Park, in Horsham, has also been shortlisted in 2020 as part of Chantry Court Care Village for Best Care Village 2020.
