Care team praised at Cranmer Court

Cranmer Court care home, in Warlingham, Surrey, has been praised in its latest CQC report for having a kind, thoughtful and compassionate care team who know the residents well.

The care home was rated as Good in each of the five inspection categories – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – during the visit, which took place in September.

Residents told the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors they felt safe at the home and were supported by sufficient numbers of staff to meet their individual needs.

Staff were praised with one relative saying: “They are my friends, I’m much older than most of them, they are like my children, they look after me well.”

One residents said: “There are masses of them.” A staff member added: “I like the time during personal care as we can spend time one-to-one with residents.”

Many relatives have complimented the home, one saying; “The staff excelled in taking my father from a frail, vulnerable man to gaining strength in body and mind. My father has returned to a happy, independent life.”

Another who had a relative recently die at the home, said; “When we thought our hearts were broken you treated us with compassion and grace.”

Residents are encouraged to make their own decisions and are helped to do so when needed. A resident said; “The staff are well trained and they are good at what they do.”

The food was praised with a resident saying; “You don’t go hungry here.” Another added; “The food is good and they provided a good selection.” A relative commented in a survey; “The food on offer is outstanding and one would wish to dine at Cranmer as if a restaurant.”

The report continues, stating that staff were caring and knew residents well. People were encouraged to be independent and staff promoted both privacy and dignity. Residents and relatives were able to have a say in the running of the home.

Inspectors saw people visiting the home at a number of different times during the inspection and always being made to feel welcome. One, whose relative had recently moved in, was asking questions and being reassured by a member of staff.  They said; “All you need to do is ask and we will help in any way we can – that’s what we are here for,”

Norah Davey, Home Manager, said: “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. We are all extremely happy that the CQC inspectors have given us a Good rating in every category for the second time.”
