Care for a Festive Lunch at Garth House?

At Garth House Nursing Home in Dorking, Surrey, we are delighted to be opening our doors over the festive season and welcoming members of our local community, aged over 65, to come, be our guests and spend the day with us.

Care to be our Guest on:

Christmas Eve: 24th December 2017 from 11am to 6pm

Christmas Day: 25th December 2017 from 11am to 6pm

Boxing Day: 26th December 2017 from 11am to 6pm

At: Garth House, Tower Hill Road, Dorking, Surrey, RH4 2AY

The idea first came to life when Carol Taylor, Home Manager, learnt of some members of our local community who were spending the days during Christmas on their own. Recent research from Age UK also estimates that some 873,000 elderly people aged over 65, don’t see or hear from anyone for days on end over the festive period.

So, after initial chats with our residents, team and some local contacts to see if they would be interested in coming and joining us, we realised just what this would mean to the people attending and to everyone involved. It was very important to us that our residents were happy to be part of this, as this is their home. From there, we started to excitedly plan and organise the events here at Garth House so that we could all spend and enjoy the festive period in the company of others.”

Carol, commented:

“Christmas is an occasion when many people spend time with families and friends, when public services are reduced and a lot of local services are closed. This can leave some people living locally spending days alone and I became motivated by the desire to invite them into our home and to spend some time with us. The idea just grew from there really…”

“After all, Christmas is the perfect excuse to meet up with old friends, make new friends, and create a lasting bond and fond memories.”

The ‘Care for Festive Lunch’ is planned to start on Christmas Eve for our first event. We are also opening our doors on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as well. Our guests can arrive from 11am, when the festivities will begin with refreshments and the opportunity to join in some of our festive activities.

From 12.30pm each day, each of our guests will enjoy a free traditional home-cooked meal with all the trimmings. A vegetarian will also be available on request (advance booking is required for both options as places are limited).

Later on in the afternoon, we will be serving a festive buffet for everyone. We’re sure there will be a turkey and stuffing sandwich or two!

That’s not all; we have lots of festive fun and cheer planned each day for all our residents, relatives, team and guests including traditional activities such as watching the Queen’s Speech and playing charades on Christmas Day.

At Garth House, we focus on the feeling of family and friends and being together at Christmas and of course, we love opening presents too!

We can’t wait and we are really looking forward to welcoming new and familiar faces as welcome guests to our home.

We love being part of and connecting with our local community. Running these events enables us to continue fostering and establishing great relationships and supporting our local community in a meaningful way whilst embodying the true spirit of Christmas. Spending the day with those who are near and dear to us, as well giving to those beyond our home and bringing joy and happiness to all.
