Bringing a table to life at Dormy House

At Dormy House care home in Sunningdale, our Activities Coordinator Carla has been busy making tablecloths for our Surrey units. Carla had the idea one afternoon that it would be a nice idea for the tables to have bright and cheerful tablecloths, after seeing a resident who often spends a lot of time at the table.

She realised that the plain table cloths were just that, plain and wondered how she could make them more visually stimulating for the residents. After doing some research, Carla popped into her local fabric store and grabbed a few pieces of material. She began to quickly turn the mixture of materials into tablecloths.

Carla was surprised to see that the tablecloths had proven quite popular, bring many a smile and have become a real talking point and conversation starter amongst our residents, their relatives and our guests. They often sit and point out the different colours, materials and images and some of them bring back many a memory as Carla uses memorable images and themes.

Carla has said that it has brightened up the room and made the tables visually stimulating. She has currently made 17 tablecloths in all. A special Remembrance Sunday print for tables for the whole home and is currently in the process of stitching tablecloths for Christmas.

Well done for the good work Carla, we are looking forward to seeing some more.
