What matters to you, matters to us – our residents homes and wishes

When the residents at Belmont House in Sutton said they wanted to have a say in the running of their home we listened to their ideas and wishes.  This included a desire to participate in everyday tasks that they felt were important to them and had been part of their former lives.

In addition to being able to live safely at home, when facing declining physical or cognitive abilities it remains important to all people to have a sense of purpose—something to do—in their everyday lives. Meaningful and enjoyable leisure pursuits can fulfill this need.

It is important at Belmont House that life for residents stays exactly how they want it, and that includes the activities that the residents used to carry out at home. The residents decided they wanted to be more involved in keeping their home the way they used to at home which includes simple things such as washing up, hoovering, laying and clearing tables, posting letters and delivering them around the home.

Not only does this provide the residents with a sense of purpose in doing something they believe is useful and helpful, but it is also great exercise, gets the residents interacting and is a talking point for many.

Belmont House provides specialist residential, nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment.
