Laverstock Care Centre Bakes up a Treat or Two…

At Laverstock care Centre in Salisbury, we hold regular baking afternoons with our residents so that they can get involved with making some yummy treats for their afternoon tea.

Some recent sessions involved a group of our residents make a rather scrumptious bread and butter pudding. Another group made some super cheesy cheese straws and today we had a group make royal jam tarts fit for the Queen or so one of our residents claimed. they were majestic!

At Laverstock Care Centre we get to know our residents and understanding their past lives. Getting our residents involved with baking activities is great for evoking happy memories and keeping them active as whipping up cake mix or kneading dough is great for joint mobility. Baking is also something that some of our residents would have used to do with their families and experienced the joy of home baked food in their younger days.

It stimulates the senses in more ways than one, being fun, social, tactile and sensory as well as getting the chance to savour their creations at the end with a nice cup of tea or coffee. A well-deserved treat we all agree.  Baking can also help stimulate appetites which can wane with age so it has added and positive health benefits as well.

Laverstock Care Centre is a modern purpose built care home situated in the medieval cathedral City of Salisbury offering residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 80 elderly residents.
