Ada & Mick’s Diamond Day at Horsell Lodge

Corks were popping at Horsell Lodge Care Home this weekend as Ada and Mick Martyr were joined by friends and family to celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

To celebrate the momentous occasion, the staff at Horsell Lodge organised a tea party in Mick and Ada’s honour, at which they enjoyed a buffet and cake, whilst showing off their congratulatory card from the Queen. Horsell Lodge Manager, Michael Larmour, completed the celebrations by presenting Ada with a bouquet of flowers.

The couple first met at a dance in Walton on Thames before getting married on 11th July 1953 at St Peters Church, Hersham. Sixty years on, they now have three daughters, Sue, Jan and Ann, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

For the first few years of married life they lived in Chertsey whilst Mick was away on National Service in Korea and Gibraltar. They then moved to Ottershaw in 1960 where they lived in the same house until November 2012.

They were heavily involved in village life, Mick being a member of the committee at Ottershaw Social Club and Ada running the local ladies darts league. In their 40’s they took up dancing again and won a number of competitions. In later life, they enjoyed taking coach trips around the UK, until their health deteriorated and they chose to move to Horsell Lodge Care Home in Woking.

Horsell Lodge is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery. Located in the peaceful village of Horsell, the grand Victorian and Edwardian property provides residential care for up to 40 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
