The Caring Homes Group has gained first place in two categories in the recent Scottish Care Awards:
• Marchglen Care Centre, in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, won the Specialist Care Provider award, and
• Ian Syme, Marchglen’s Head Chef, won the Nutritional Achiever of the Year award
The award’s aim is to acknowledge and celebrate the role of outstanding care homes in Scotland, and the efforts and achievements of their dedicated staff. All of the nominees were judged against a high standard of diverse criteria, and the winners are all outstanding examples of excellence in their categories.
The Marchglen Care Centre, winner of the Specialist Services Provider award, offers a varied and professional patient-centred service to 36 people with a primary diagnosis of an acquired brain injury, who may have additional complex needs, and require all kinds of specialist care. Unique in its service offering and person-centred approach to care, the centre offers facilities such as rehabilitation suites for those with progressing conditions, piped oxygen and suction. These specialist services have enabled Marchglen to become ‘home’ for those who usually require hospital care, making services like in-house neurological rehabilitation possible.
Marchglen’s Head Chef, Ian Syme, won the Nutritional Achiever of the Year award due to his personal approach to devising nutritious and innovative menus designed to meet the diverse needs of all the residents at Marchglen. Ian’s restaurateur background means that he is experienced in devising menus with high levels of choice and has developed a nutritious and well-presented menu of contemporary and traditional dishes to suit all tastes. He has also developed menus with pictures for easier selection. Now with a trio of awards to his name, Ian has previously been awarded the ‘Scottish Region Care Cook of the Year’ Award, and was also awarded third place in the prestigious national ‘Care Cook of the Year’ competition.
