At the NACC (National Association of Care Catering) Care Cook of the Year Competition Ian won the Scottish Regional Competition to secure his place in the final of this national competition.
Ian was supported by Caring Homes Group Regional Chef, Emlyn Lloyd-Jones, Hospitality Services Manager, Mike Biggs and Hospitality Services Director, Robert Jeffery.
Care Cook of the Year is the longest standing independent recipe competition in the UK, challenging people who operate in the care sector to devise new and exciting recipes.
Entrants for the competition were given the task of developing a two course menu for under £1.20 and which met nutritional guidelines for the care sector.
Ian Syme of Marchglen Care Centre, Alloa, Scotland created a roasted vegetable and Cajun chicken lasagne followed by Scotch pancakes with glazed cinnamon apples to secure his place as Scottish Region Winner and National Finalist.
The final was held at Birmingham Catering College on 29th June 2007 and was attended by 8 regional finalists. Each finalist had to create their dishes in front of a panel of eminent judges, who then tasted them in order to select the final three. This was the first time Ian had entered a competition. His inspired creativity and careful attention to detail resulted in him being awarded 3rd prize.
This is wonderful recognition of the hard work he puts into creating a full and varied diet for the residents of Marchglen care. Congratulations to Ian on this fantastic effort.
