VE Day observed at Deer Park View

The staff and residents of Deer Park View spent a special day celebrating the 70th anniversary of VE Day recently.

The staff wore wartime nursing caps and army helmets, whilst the residents enjoyed a VE Day party with WW2 era music and food, featuring some Union Jack biscuits that the residents had spent time decorating for the event.

Mrs Joan Holmes and her daughter Diane Holmes sponsored a display of utility clothing, petty coats made from parachute silk, a ration book, a coupon book and letters and diaries from the War. This display was very popular with staff and residents alike and triggered many memories for those who lived through this time.

A two minute silence was held throughout the home after listening to Winston Churchill’s victory speech, before everyone danced the afternoon away!
