Summer Fete – a great day at Mill House

On Saturday the 6th of August, Mill House in Chipping Campden hosted our Summer Fete, now an annual event, which was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by our residents and their guests.

The weather surprised us as it was very warm and sunny all day so we could enjoy the sunshine in the beautiful garden and everyone took full advantage of being outside in the fresh air.

Our residents and guests really look forward to the events we host here as it is a chance to welcome loved ones into the home and a great opportunity for everyone to come together and socialise.

This event was eagerly awaited and our team kicked off the preparations a few months ago.  It was all hands on deck with all the team pitching in to ensure the event went well. It took a lot of planning but seeing everyone with big smiles, relaxing and enjoying themselves made it all worthwhile.

During this period we received some great prizes and a lot of donations from our local shops, hotels, tea rooms and other local businesses and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated.

We managed to organise some ferret racing which was a huge success and great fun. For just £1 people could bet on a ferret and win a bottle of a beer when their chosen ferret won a race! Everyone had a chance to stroke the ferrets as they have been trained to be handled and were very gentle and friendly. Also, Celebration Reed and Brass band performed and entertained us; they played well known tunes we could all sing-a-long to and they were also very helpful with making announcements.

Kim Mulford, our Home Manager enjoyed her first Summer Fete at Mill House helping the team and our residents – she even bet on the ferrets and even won four prizes!

The children’s drawing competition went very well and we had ten children participating. Roger Williamson and Rachel Buxton, members of the Residents Council were judging and chose the winners. it was a hard decision to make but we are proud to announce the first winner was Amelie who won £20 voucher for ‘The Works’. The second winner was Sophie – Phoebe Haines (one of our residents) granddaughter, won a wooden pencil set and finally the third prize, a pencil case with some fillings.

Jon Munn and Robert Powell, our two Chefs, did us proud and baked mouth watering and delicious fruit cakes, lemon drizzle, chocolate fudge cake and homemade scones which were served with teas and coffees for our lovely guests. Roger Mayo (one of our Carers) kindly helped on the day to serve refreshments.

We also had a vegetable stall with fresh local produce with strawberries and broad beans donated by Phoebe Haines son. The Tombola was popular as always with prizes mainly donated by family and friends. Everyone had a chance to buy handmade cards and lavender bags from the stall all made by residents at Mill House.

The cake stall went very well; we had cakes donated by so many people even Sara Townsed (one of our Carers) managed to bake two cakes before her day shift and Kim drew the raffle before the end of the Fete. Our first Raffle price was dinner for two at the Kings Arms Hotel in Chipping Campden and our lucky winner was Karen – one of our resident’s (Kath Barlow) daughter. Everyone exclaimed they enjoyed the day.

Everyone at Mill House would like to thank all the people for their help and support – we all had a fabulous time and we have a lot to live up to next year!
