Oomph! at St George

Residents at St George Care Home have recently been taking part in Oomph! sessions.

Oomph! is dedicated to transforming the health and quality of life of older people through inclusive exercise and activity classes that improve physical mobility, social interaction and mental stimulation.

The Oomph! sessions focus on familiar music, reminsicence-led imagery and sensory props which are particularly effective for people with dementia. These help create a fun ‘party’ atmosphere that residents look forward to.

Regina Mparutsa, Home Manager said; “Oomph! is a great way to get all our residents involved. Some of our residents like to stand up when getting involved, whereas others prefer to stay firmly on their bottoms. Whichever they prefer – they all say it’s great fun! At St George Care Home we take the mental and physical wellbeing of our residents very seriously and anything that can assist this is very welcome!”

The music during Oomph! sessions is lively, helping to make residents feel awake and energised. Family and friends are also welcome to join in at any time.

St George Care Home is a modern, purpose-built care home located in a quiet residential area, three miles from Bristol city centre, providing specialist nursing care for up to 67 people. The environment is friendly with a bright atmosphere, providing the highest levels of nursing care in a quiet and relaxed setting.
