Mount Pleasant Care Home in line for National award

Mount Pleasant care home in Winshill, Burton on Trent, has been shortlisted for a National Care Award. The home is one of just five finalists from across the UK in line for the accolade of Dignity & Respect Care Home of the Year.

In March this year Mount Pleasant, which provides residential and residential dementia care for up to 50 elderly people, was a winner in Staffordshire County Council’s Dignity in Care Awards.

The National Care Award is given to `an exceptional care home which can convincingly demonstrate that it has put dignity and respect for its residents and staff at the very heart of all it does and that this has resulted in tangible benefits for residents, relatives and staff alike’. Finalist interviews will be taking place in London on 10th October with the winners announced at a gala dinner on 25th November.

Nikki Kelly, Home Manager at Mount Pleasant, says: “We are very pleased to be shortlisted for the award. It’s a fantastic achievement to be in the top five in the country. Everyone working here goes out of their way to understand and meet each resident’s needs, wishes and interests and help them to continue these in the home. They are committed to keeping residents as independent and in control of their lives as possible.

“We also observe simple respectful actions such as knocking on doors of residents’ rooms before entering, not talking over residents and giving them time to respond, to name just few small but significant courtesies.”
