Halloween Spider Cakes at Oaken Holt

The residents at Oaken Holt care home in Farmoor, Oxfordshire enjoyed baking some Halloween spider cakes this week to celebrate this annual event.

In the lead up to Halloween, we involved the residents in a baking session which provided the residents with the opportunity to discuss what we would make for Halloween, swap ideas and get creative but most of all, come together in a joint activity and have some fun.

The cakes were made and baked, then decorated with buttercream, liquorice lace legs and smarties for their eyes. The spookier the better and the results were great as you can see from the photo.

Sherrie Hume, Home Manager said:

“At Oaken Holt, we encourage baking sessions such as these and it provides great enjoyment for all, especially when there is a theme as we know it brings people together, stimulates conversation and enables interaction between residents and our Activities Coordinator.”

We also got to eat the fruits of our labours even if they looked a bit creepy. With a rich chocolate sponge covered in buttercream and lots and lots of legs, these scary treats were actually very tasty and these scrumptious Halloween treats did not hang around for long!
