Coppice Lea pay tribute to the fallen

The residents at Coppice Lea in Merstham, paid tribute to the fallen war hero’s at the annual Rememberance Service at Redhill Belfry Shopping Center this weekend.

Prior to the service they enjoyed a morning coffee and a snack at a local coffee shop which they love to do, it helps integrate the residents with the local community and provides a new environment for them.

The local residents of Redhill came to pay their respects, as well as guide dogs and their owners, the local Mayor, school children, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, local shop retail staff and of course the ex-service men and women that have supported our Country.

After the two minute silence, the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ by John McCrae was read (see below) and sixty thousand poppies fell, it was an amazing sight!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Attending these events remains extremely important to our residents, to remember the fallen and what their families went through. It brings a lot of thought and discussion back into the home.
