Art at Magna Care Centre

Residents at Magna Care Centre in Dorset regularly engage in a variety of activities including art, trips to local attractions and visits from canine friends.

Doris and Margaret, two residents at Magna Care Centre, particularly enjoy working together during art sessions. They have recently made a college, spending several sessions together gradually building up a picture. They used a variety of materials to create their picture including felt, buttons, emery boards and plastic and dried flowers. The use of such varied materials have been a great sensory experience for both ladies.

“We always encourage our residents to participate and get involved in the activities they love most” said Heidi Williams, Home Manager: “Our activities and events provision at the home is diverse and varied and we enjoy seeing the pleasure our residents get from engaging in what we have planned for them. Activities such as art are a great way for our residents to build friendships too, as shown here with Margaret and Doris who worked together to produce some spectacular work.”

Doris moved to Magna a few years ago to be near to her family; two sons, two granddaughters, one grandson, four great grandsons and two great granddaughters. She was born in North London and was married to Bernard. She worked in an office and was an active member of the WI for over thirty years. Doris’ hobbies include knitting, sewing and music which are encouraged at Magna.

Margaret was born, grew up and married John in Wokingham, Berkshire. She completed a six year apprenticeship with a small company, working as a seamstress making clothes for Royalty. She gave up working when her family came along; two daughters, four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one on the way! Margaret moved to the Magna recently and really enjoyed making her college with Doris.

Magna Care Centre provides residential and specialist nursing care for up to 63 residents.
