Located in the peaceful village of Great Cornard, Sudbury, Mellish House is a purpose-built home providing residential care for up to 48 elderly people living with a form of dementia.

Mellish House has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s standards for dementia care, which are widely acknowledged as providing the best living environment for people living with dementia. Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre is renowned as the world leader in this field. The Stirling approach ensures that residents are able to move freely around the home, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimise confusion or disorientation. Many bedrooms feature a memory box by the front door, where mementos from a resident’s life help to personalise their room and also remind staff and visitors of the individual’s life story.

Mellish House is ideally equipped to provide residential support for elderly people living with different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and Korsacoff’s syndrome. However, staff never lose sight of the fact that, first and foremost, Mellish House is home to our residents. The home has a light, airy and welcoming ambience and residents benefit from a broad and thoroughly enjoyable range of activities.

This care & retirement home in Suffolk offers a full range of residential support, including trial stays, respite breaks and convalescent care as well as long term care. Residents are encouraged to bring important personal possessions to personalise their rooms. Mellish House operates an open visiting policy, where residents and loved ones may visit at convenient times. In common with all of our homes, Mellish House's manager has a qualified nursing background. The home is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and has ISO9001/2000 and Hospitality Assured accreditation.

"The caring staff are excellent, patient, often in difficult circumstances, polite, kind and friendly. I feel I have made some good friends at Mellish House in the year and five months that my husband has been a resident there. Frequent activities and interesting diversions for the residents, the two activities ladies are excellent. They really enjoy what they do for residents and are most ingenious and go to a lot of trouble... carehomes.co.uk" -

"My mother had been ill for sometime before going into Mellish House. She was malnourished, neglected herself and adamant she did not want to go into a home. The staff at Mellish House have been brilliant with her she is now eating all of her meals, sleeping well and mixing with other residents. All of the staff are always happy to help. There is a nice atmosphere at Mellish House. I feel confident my mother is in the 'right' place." -
