My dad was admitted into the dementia unit in Hillview over 2 years ago. On admission dad was a challenge both physically and verbally. It had been a long time since I saw dad smile, which was heartbreaking because he had such a wicked sense of humour. Although I know it has been tough for the staff at times, they have been very patient and caring to dad and this has paid dividends. Dad's smiling again!! He seems so settled, he still has the occasional outburst, but the staff know him well and can see the signs. Dad recognises the staff faces and he seems to trust them. Would I recommend this care home? Definitely. Both the manager and staff are very approachable, they always keep us updated. We can leave dad knowing he's safe and secure.
How likely would you be to recommend Hillview Court? Extremely Likely
Review relates to June 2016
I have over 24 years experience providing care in the NHS and private care sector. I joined Caring Homes in 2002 as Deputy Manager at Beechwood Park, then went on to become Manager of Hillview Court later that year. Following this, I commissioned Marchglen Care Centre in December 2006 and managed it until returning to Hillview in November 2012.
I’m a qualified Learning Disability Nurse and have completed SVQ level 4 in Care, and achieved my Registered Manager’s award in 2007. I’m proud to have joined an award winning Care Team, who were awarded “Specialist Care Provider” by the Scottish Care Association for the Acquired Brain Injury Unit in 2011, and were finalists in 2009 for their great work in Dementia Care.
Hillview provides a wide range of care for older people, people with dementia, learning disabilities and acquired brain injury within seven individual units. Underpinning everything we do at Hillview is a strong commitment to providing a high standard of holistic care and to meeting individual wishes and aspirations.
I love the daily challenges associated with managing Hillview Court and particularly enjoy chatting with residents and families; listening to their views and feedback helps us to continually improve. I also strive to work closely with my Care Team to develop their skills and to learn from them.
Whether it be at work or my personal life, I love a challenge and am looking forward to taking part in Race for Life with my daughter Emily Jane – who is helping to spur me on!
